WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's basketball senior Ae'Rianna Harris was named a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award on Tuesday.
A year after earning finalist laurels for the national award, Harris has continued her defensive dominance with 77 blocks and 8.4 rebounds per game, including 6.5 boards on the defensive end. Harris is sixth in the nation in blocked shots, 15th in blocked shots per game at 2.75 and 50th in rebounds.
The reigning two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year was tabbed to the Lisa Leslie Award Top-10 a few weeks ago. The Indianapolis native holds Purdue's record for career blocked shots, double-doubles and rebounds.
Harris is the lone representative of the Big Ten among the 10 semifinalists. The finalists for the defensive award will be revealed on March 13. The winner of the 2020 Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year will be announced on April 4.
