The Purdue women's tennis team dropped its final match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday afternoon on the campus of South Carolina. The Boilermakers fell 4-1 to Big Ten Conference foe Wisconsin.

COLUMBIA, S.C. ­– The Purdue women's tennis team dropped its final match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday afternoon on the campus of South Carolina. The Boilermakers fell 4-1 to Big Ten Conference foe Wisconsin.

Purdue started strong in doubles play. Ena Babic and Alex Sabe cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 1 against Charmaine Seah and Christina Zordani. Nikol Dobrilova and Seira Shimizu gave the Boilermakers an early 1-0 lead with a 6-4 decision at No. 1 against Anna Makarova and Ava Markham.

In singles play, the Boilermakers struggled to maintain the momentum with losses at No. 5, 4 and 1 in straight sets. Dobrilova forced a third set at No. 2, but she fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 to Xinyu Cai. Alex Sabe had forced a third set and Zala Dovnik was on her way to a third frame when play was halted.

The Boilermakers will travel out to Seattle next Saturday to face Washington at 4 p.m. (ET).
