IOWA CITY, Iowa
– Another conference title on the tower for Brandon Loschiavo and nine team records headlined the Big Ten Championships for Purdue men's swimming & diving.

Twenty Boilermakers scored in at least one individual event. Joe Young (70 points), Ben Bramley (62), Trent Pellini (51), Nikola Acin (49), Joe Cifelli (48) and Erik Juliusson (42) each scored in all three of their individual events and ranked among the top eight on the team in scoring.

Grant Lewis, Cifelli and Young will graduate this year as four-year scorers at Big Tens. Cifelli accounted for a team-high 224 points at Big Tens during his career, qualifying for at least one championship final all four years.

The divers teamed up to win four Big Ten medals – Loschiavo's gold on 10-meter plus a sweep of the bronze medals. Greg Duncan took third in both springboard events and Bramley won bronze on the tower. Purdue had four of the top 12 finishers on 1-meter, including three championship finalists. The Boilermakers racked up 90 team points on 1-meter, making it their top-scoring event of the meet.

Loschiavo repeated as the Big Ten champion on platform, joining David Boudia as the only Purdue divers to win consecutive titles in the same event at Big Tens. The Boilermakers have won the last three Big Ten titles on 10-meter, four diving championships over the last three seasons, and 13 total dating back to 2009.

Young, Pellini and Acin led the way as the swimmers were successful in rewriting the program record book. Young established Purdue records in the 100 (46.14) and 200 backstroke (1:41.93) at Big Tens for the second year in a row. He also teamed with Pellini, Juliusson, Acin and James Boone for new records in the 200 and 400 medley relays.

After eclipsing the freshman record in the 100 breaststroke at Big Tens a year ago, Pellini (51.76) became the first Boilermaker to break 52 seconds in the event as a sophomore. He and Young both finished just a couple thousandths of a second from winning a medal in the A finals of the 100 breast 100 back, respectively.

Acin shattered Purdue freshman records in all three of his individual events – sprinting into the top three in program history in the 50 (19.51), 100 (43.09) and 200 freestyle (1:35.11). He swam on all five relays and was also part of a program record with Nikola Bjelajac, Ryan Lawrence and Boone in the 400 free relay.

The 200 medley relay team opened Big Tens with an NCAA automatic qualifying time (A Cut) and will earn a berth to the NCAA Championships as long as one Boilermaker qualifies individually for the meet.

Along with Loschiavo's victory in the 10-meter championship final, Purdue also won a combined six B and C finals. The Boilermakers swept the opening acts of both the 50 free and 100 butterfly. Acin (50 free), Bramley (3-meter diving) and Young (100 fly) were victorious in B finals. Kiki Komlenic (200 back), Ryan Hrosik (50 free) and Juliusson (100 fly) all won C finals.

Purdue finished fourth in the team scoring for the second year in a row, matching the program's best-ever showing at Big Tens. During the modern era of the meet, the Boilermakers' 2009 and 2010 teams are the only others to finish fourth in consecutive years. Even with a DQ in the 200 free relay this season, Purdue still scored nine more points than it did in 2018 (744.5 vs. 735.5). The Boilermakers had one additional student-athlete score this year and two more score in all three of their individual events.

Head coach Dan Ross has added a Boiler-Make-It NCAA Last Chance meet to Purdue's home schedule after Ohio State had to cancel its similar meet. The Boilermakers will welcome swimmers from Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Louisville, Notre Dame, Princeton and West Virginia to the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center on Sunday. Prelims are set for 10 a.m. ET and finals at 2 p.m.

Swimming qualifiers for the NCAA Championships are expected to be announced March 13. The divers compete at the NCAA Zone C Championships from March 14 to 16. Purdue is hosting the annual NCAA diving qualifier this season. Texas is hosting both the men's and women's NCAA Championships. The men's meet is set for March 27 to 30.
