Purdue's Athell Bennett rebounded on Thursday morning at the ITA Fall National Championships at the Tennis Club at the Newport Beach Country Club with a win in the opening round of the consolation draw.

The senior squared off with Big Ten rival Andrew Fenty, the No. 30 player in the nation. In a back-and-forth battle, Bennett took the opening set 7-6(5), before the Wolverines' No. 1 evened the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. Bennett claimed the match in the third set by a score of 6-4.

The Valley Stream, N.Y., native dropped his opening round match to Riley Smith from USC on Wednesday morning.
