WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team rolled on the opening day of the Bonita Bay FineMark Class/FGCU Invite. The Boilermakers cruised to a 5-2 win against Connecticut.

Purdue took an early lead with the opening doubles point. Csilla Fodor and Ena Babic went to a tiebreak to beat Julie Ann Bou and Mireille Moreau at No. 1, 7-6(4). Nathalia Wolf Gasparin and Seira Shimizu put the Boilermakers ahead with a shutout 6-0 win over Caroline Cook and Denise Lai at No. 2.

Zala Dovnik and Alex Sabe dropped their doubles contest to Luciana Rabines and Selen Takunyaci at No. 3, 6-3.

In singles, the Boilermakers claimed four victories, plus Zeynep Naz Ozturk's 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 win against Takunyaci in the seventh match. Babic took No. 1 singles in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0. At No. 3, Sabe made quick work of Cook with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Fodor blanked Rabines in the second set to win at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0. Wolf Gasparin capped the singles scoring for the Boilermakers with a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Elizabeth Kozyi.

UConn picked up points at No. 2 and 4 singles. Shimizu fell to Moreau, 6-3, 6-4, and Dovnik dropper her contest to Lai, 6-0, 6-3.

The Boilermakers will play Minnesota on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
