WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball welcomes a Wabash Valley College team that won 55 games in the spring to campus for a Homecoming Weekend exhibition game, which has been moved to Sunday at Alexander Field.

Originally scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. ET, the game will now be played Sunday at 2 p.m. due to rain in the forecast. The teams have agreed to play 12 innings regardless of the score. Admission is free for all fall events at Alexander.

Saturday was not an option for the Boilermakers because they're scheduled to be the Team of the Game at Ross-Ade as Purdue football hosts Maryland at noon. The players will be recognized on the field between the first and second quarters. They'll also be signing autographs and interacting with fans at the Boilermaker Crossing tailgate event between Mackey Arena and Holloway Gymnasium from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The three-game Black & Gold Series is slated for next week (Thursday to Saturday). All three intrasquad games are projected to be six-innings affairs and are open to the public.

Wabash Valley compiled an impressive 55-4 record last season. The Warriors were the top-ranked NJCAA Division I program from March 26 through the final poll issued on May 15. Wabash Valley had lost only one game as of May 15.

Based in Mount Carmel, Illinois, near the banks of the Wabash River, Wabash Valley competes in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and Region XXIV. Last season, the Warriors were a perfect 27-0 in league play and also won the Region XXIV Tournament. But Iowa Western won two of three vs. the Warriors in Mount Carmel at the Northern District Tournament to deny WVC a spot in the NJCAA World Series. Iowa Western ended up in the championship game of the 10-team event in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Former Boilermaker Braden Giroux (2018) was a member of Wabash Valley's 2017 team that finished third at the NJCAA World Series. James Jewell (2015-16) and Tanner Schumacher (2016-17) also played for Purdue this decade after at least one season in Mount Carmel. Meanwhile, pitchers Hunter Wolfe (2017) and Austin Peterson (2019) opted to transfer to Wabash Valley for their sophomore seasons after starting their college careers at Purdue.

The Warriors' roster this fall features players from 12 different states. They also have players from Puerto Rico (7), Canada (4) and the Dominican Republic (3). Current WVC players have already committed to the likes of Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Illinois State for the 2020-21 school year. Rob Fournier is in his 24th season as the head coach at Wabash Valley, winning 13 conference titles. Assistant coach Bailey Montgomery has been named the head coach of the Lafayette Aviators for the 2020 season . The Aviators will play their home games next summer at Alexander Field.
