WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's tennis team is set to open its 2019-20 season this weekend at the Purdue Invitational at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The tournament is slated for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Play is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. all three days. Friday will feature one round of singles and two rounds of doubles. Saturday will flip the schedule with two doubles rounds and one for singles. Sunday will culminate with the final rounds and any additional matches.
The Boilermakers have a pair of players in the top flight of singles. Maksymilian Raupuk will square off with IUPUI's Sean Bailey, and Franz Luna will take on Srdan Pejic from Xavier. Rookie Tomasz Dudek will open his Purdue career against Raul Teichmann from Cleveland State in Flight B. Julian Saborio will battle top-seeded Matthew Fung from Louisville in Flight C, while Sebastian Welch meet Gerogi Mavrodiev of Dayton in the same draw.
Welch and Saborio will team up in the doubles Flight A against Cleveland State's Jack Santilli and Teichmann. Dudek and Raupuk will go up against Gabriel Carvajal and Brian Pecyna of Valparaiso in Flight B.
While the majority of the roster compete in West Lafayette, ORACLE/ITA No. 40 Athell Bennett and Mateo Julio will start their fall seasons in Tulsa, Okla., at the ITA All-American Championships. Julio will play in the singles qualifying flight Oct. 7-8, before Bennett takes the court in the main singles draw Oct. 9-13.
