WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Alex Sabe and Seira Shimizu picked up flight championships on Sunday at the Purdue Invite, as the Boilermakers capped their first tournament of the fall season.

Sabe claimed the Boilermaker singles draw first-place honors after a win in straight sets over Maia Hamueller from Louisville, 6-1, 7-6(4).

After falling in the opening round of the Gold singles flight on Friday, Shimizu rallied to win the consolation championship. The Japanese international needed three sets to beat Andrea Craciun from Wright State, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Zeynep Naz Ozturk was originally slated to face teammate Zala Dovnik in the final of the Hammer Down flight, but tournament officials elected to have the Boilermaker duo face opponents from other teams. Dovnik held off Denise Lai from UConn over three sets, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4, while Ozturk fell to Louisville's Dina Chaika, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Nikol Dobrilova came up just short in the finals of the Hammer Down singles flight. The Spanish international dropped her contest to Jelena Vujanic of Louisville, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Boilermakers will return to the courts Oct. 5 for the Wildcat Invite at Northwestern and the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla.
