West Lafayette, Ind. - The Purdue cross country program is back in action Saturday for the John McNichols Invitational at Indiana State's LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Purdue will be competing alongside 27 men's and women's programs, including Illinois, Indiana, and Stanford.
The races will begin at 9 a.m. ET. The men will run the 8k first, followed by the women's 5k at 9:45 a.m. ET.
Great Lakes Region Men's Runner of the Year Jaret Carpenter and teammate Curt Eckstein, will make their 2019 debut. Saturday's meet will mark the first race at thee Indiana State course since the 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, where Carpenter placed first and Eckstein took eighth-place.
Other men's runners slated to compete include Alec Fleming and Kyle Griffith, who making their second consecutive appearance after both clocking in at 25:30.2 in the season-opener at the Illini Open.
For the women, Meagan Hathaway and Megan Slamkowski will be competing in their second race of the year. Slamkowski placed fourth at the Illini Open with a time of 17:24.0 while Hathaway placed in the top 10 as well with a time of 17:44.6. Senior, Kyra Ball will be making her first start of the season.
