WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – With the start of the fall campaign less than three weeks away, the Purdue men's tennis team received its entry information for the ITA Men's All-American Championships on Oct. 5-13 in Tulsa, Okla.
Athell Bennett received a direct bid into the main singles draw. The Valley Stream, N.Y., native finished the 2019 season ranked No. 75 in the Oracle/ITA men's singles rankings. Appearing in all 24 matches, Bennett went 14-5 in singles play, including a 9-5 clip at No. 1 singles.
Mateo Julio will also have a chance to compete at the national event next month. The Argentine international will battle in the qualifying rounds on Oct. 7-8. Top players out of the qualifying event will punch their tickets for the main draw.
On the other side of the world, freshman Arslan Orashev made his debut in the Davis Cup for Turkmenistan. The rookie went 3-1 on the week with singles victories against Guam, Mongolia and Iraq. Turkmenistan took seventh place in the Group IV Asia/Oceania event.
The Boilermakers open their fall campaign on Oct. 4 with the Purdue Invitational at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
