Weiler Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Junior Joe Weiler was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Junior Joe Weiler was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week after recording his second top-three finish of the season. It marks the first weekly honor of Weiler's career.

Weiler, a Bloomington, Indiana, native, earned the award after recording a third-place showing at the Gopher Invitational this past weekend in Minnesota. Weiler recorded a 54-hole tally of 3-under par 210 (71-68-71) to finish just three shots behind medalist William Buhl of Arkansas (-6).

Weiler was the only player in the field to record three rounds of even-par or better and his 210 tied a career-low tournament score set the previous week at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.

He leads the Boilermakers in stroke average through two events, averaging 70.00 per 18 holes. Through 108 holes this year, he's had just one double bogey. He's been at even or under-par in all six rounds this season, tied for the fifth-longest streak in school history.

For his career, Weiler ranks 13th in school history in career stroke average at 74.00 strokes per round.

The Boilermakers will compete at the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms in Lake Forest, Illinois, next Monday and Tuesday.
