WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Ten Boilermakers have made National Football League opening-day 53-man rosters:
Ricardo Allen, S - Atlanta Falcons
Ja'Whaun Bentley, LB - New England Patriots
David Blough, QB - Detroit Lions
Drew Brees, QB - New Orleans Saints
Anthony Brown, CB - Dallas Cowboys
Dennis Kelly, T - Tennessee Titans
Ryan Kerrigan, LB - Washington Redskins
Raheem Mostert, RB - San Francisco 49ers
Kevin Pamphile, G - Tennessee Titans
Kawann Short, DT - Carolina Panthers
The lone rookie is Blough, who was acquired by the Detroit Lions in a trade with the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 30. In four preseason games, Blough completed 25 of 43 passes (58.1 percent) for 271 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Another quarterback, Brees, is the senior statesman, entering his 19th season. In the Saints' 43-19 win over the Washington Redskins on Oct. 9, 2018, he broke the NFL career passing yards record. Brees also holds NFL career marks for completions, completion percentage and total offense, and he enters the 2019 season ranked second with 520 passing touchdowns, behind only Peyton Manning (539). On Oct. 21, 2018, when the Saints beat the Baltimore Ravens 24-23, Brees joined Brett Favre and Manning as the only three quarterbacks to have a victory against all 32 current NFL teams.
Tackle David Steinmetz is listed on the Houston Texan's reserve/injured list.
