Bova Awarded B1G Goalkeeper of the Week

Marisa Bova is named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week following a pair of shutouts

West Lafayette, Ind. – Purdue soccer sophomore Marisa Bova was dubbed Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week by the conference office Tuesday. Bova's honor comes after the first week of play, where the Boilermakers shutout Georgia (1-0) and Toledo (4-0).

With the honor, Bova secured the second league weekly award of her career. Last September, Bova won Freshman of the Week (9/11/2018) for her performance in Purdue's victories against No. 24 Louisville and Western Michigan.

Following the opening weekend, Purdue is the only Big Ten program to shutout opponents in both games. Bova accumulated four key saves in the wins, split evenly among the two matches.

Against Georgia, the 6-2 goalkeeper recorded the first save in the 21st minute on a direct kick. Her second save came in the 55th minute of play, where Bova prevented the Bulldog attempt with a stop near the bottom right corner of the goal.

Against Toledo, Bova closed down developing opportunities in the box and another shot off a free kick. Her shutout against the rockets marked the third of her career.

Bova is the first Boilermaker goalkeeper to receive the award. The Big Ten added the category for the 2018 season.
