Full List of CSCAA Scholar All-Americans
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fifteen members of Purdue swimming & diving were recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-Americans for achieving dual excellence via a 3.5-plus grade-point averages in conjunction with their athletic accomplishments.
Seven of Purdue's 2019 NCAA Championships qualifiers were named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans. That group included divers Ben Bramley, Emily Bretscher, Greg Duncan, Morgan Meixner and Maggie Merriman as well as swimmers Erik Juliusson and Jinq En Phee.
Additionally, eight more Boilermakers were recognized as honorable mention Scholar All-Americans by the CSCAA. That group of swimmers registered at least one NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut) while maintaining their 3.5-plus GPAs. Cady Farlow, Gabi Gomez Treig, Riley Kishman, Ryan Lawrence, Grant Lewis, Nick McDowell, Natalie Myers and Jackie Smailis all accomplished the feat.
As seniors and 2019 graduates, Farlow and Lewis were recognized by the CSCAA for the third time during their college careers. Juliusson, Meixner and Smailis also finished strong with 3.5-plus GPAs as 2019 graduates.
Phee is now three-for-three in Scholar All-America honors through her junior season.
Many of the 15 Boilermakers recognized by the CSCAA will also be named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars when those honorees are announced by the conference office next week.
As programs, the Purdue men and women were both named CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams for each semester of the 2018-19 school year. Forty-eight Boilermakers that call the pool home were named Academic All-Big Ten this season.
2019 HIGHLIGHTS FOR PURDUE'S CSCAA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICANS
• Ben Bramley was a championship finalist in platform diving in his debut at the NCAA Championships, finishing sixth nationally to earn All-America honors as a freshman. At the Big Ten Championships, he won bronze on the tower. He also qualified for the FINA World Championships and Pan American Games with USA Diving.
• Emily Bretscher finished 10th nationally in both 1-meter and platform diving at the NCAA Championships, garnering a pair of honorable mention All-America awards. She was selected to represent USA Diving at the World University Games.
• Greg Duncan finished among the top 10 nationally in both springboard diving events at the NCAA Championships. He won the 3-meter consolation final while claiming a pair of honorable mention All-America awards. He was also a two-time bronze medalist at the Big Ten Championships. He was selected to represent USA Diving at the World University Games.
• Erik Juliusson helped Purdue claim honorable mention All-America accolades in both the 200 and 400 medley relays at the NCAA Championships. Both quartets established program records. It marked the first time in program history that the Boilermakers earned All-America honors in two different relays in the same year. He also scored in all three of his individual events at the Big Ten Championships.
• Jackie Smailis established program records in the 100 and 200 backstroke. She was an A finalist in both events at the Big Ten Championships and scored in all three of her individual events and helped Purdue eclipse team benchmarks in both medley relays.
• Jinq En Phee broke one minute in the 100 breaststroke yet again and returned to the NCAA Championships. She qualified for the FINA World Championships for her homeland Malaysia.
• Ryan Lawrence helped the Boilermakers establish a program record in the 400 freestyle relay at the Big Ten Championships. The quartet's time also allowed Purdue to race in the event at the NCAA Championships.
• Natalie Myers scored in all three of her individual events at the Big Ten Championships.
• All 15 Boilermakers recognized by the CSCAA scored in at least one individual event at Big Tens.
