WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue's Emily Bretscher and Greg Duncan have been selected to represent USA Diving at the World University Games next month in Naples, Italy.
The Boilermakers joined Texas and Stanford as the only schools to have both a male and female diver selected for the 30th Summer Universiade. Bretscher and Duncan are both rising juniors and two-time NCAA Championships qualifiers. They were two-time honorable mention All-Americans this season, finishing among the top 10 in a pair of events at the national championship meet.
Events assignments at the World University Games were not announced Tuesday by USA Diving, but Bretscher and Duncan are expected to compete in the springboard events. The diving competitions in Naples are set for July 2 to 8.
Alumna Kaersten Meitz is also confirmed to be part of USA Swimming's roster for the World University Games. She helped the U.S. win a silver in the 4x200 freestyle relay at the 2017 World University Games in Taipei.
At the USA Diving Senior National Championships last month, Brandon Loschiavo (10-meter), David Boudia (3-meter), Steele Johnson (10-meter synchro) and Ben Bramley (10-meter synchro) all clinched berths at the FINA World Championships (July 12-28 in Gwangju, South Korea). Alumni Steven LoBue and David Colturi should also be in South Korea for the 27-meter high diving competition.
Meanwhile, Johnson and Bramley are also top candidates to represent the U.S. individually on 10-meter at the 2019 Pan American Games (July 26-Aug. 11 in Lima, Peru).
Purdue swimming & diving has been represented by at least one student-athlete at the World University Games for each of the last eight biennial events dating back to 2005.
