WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue men's tennis freshman Santiago Galan has been named the ITA Ohio Valley Rookie of the Year. The honor gives Galan an automatic bid for the national ITA Rookie of the Year award among 12 other finalists.
Galan defeated seven opponents this season at the No. 6 singles position and claimed five doubles victories. Six of the seven singles victories he took in two sets, including an impressive victory over No. 46 Piotr Smietana of Iowa 6-3, 6-1. In the last match of the season, Galan led No. 15 Gui Gomes of Illinois in an unfinished match 7-5, 5-3.
