ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Purdue men's tennis team fell short in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament to 15h-ranked and and second-seeded Illinois 4-2 on Friday.
The 10th-seeded Boilermakers won the doubles point in two. The first victory came at the No. 3 position, where Franz Luna and Santiago Galan took down Keenan Mayo and Fletcher Scott 7-5. Makysmilian Raupuk and Mateo Julio defeated Gui Gomes and Buk Budic 6-4 to secure the first point of the match. Athell Bennett and Stephan Koengisfest ended unfinished 6-6 (5-6) with No. 52 Aleks Kovacevic and Alex Brown.
The only Boilermaker point in singles came at the No. 1 position, with an upset from Bennett defeating No. 9 Kovacevic 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Raupuk pushed his second set to the tie breaker but fell just short to Zeke Clark 6-0, 7-5.
Koenigsfest fought to the end with Siphsothando Montsi, ending unfinished 7-5, 6-7(4), 4-5.
The Boilermakers end their season with a 10-14 overall record, including 3-8 in the Big Ten.
