STANFORD, Calif. – The west coast agreed with the Boilermakers once again as two Purdue distance runners generated a pair of times among the program's best. Brody Smith and Curt Eckstein delivered in their 3k steeplechase and 5k run performances, respectively, at the Cardinal Classic to highlight Purdue's success in The Golden State.

Smith closed out Purdue's events with a bang in the steeplechase. After leading for the majority of the race, Smith recorded a time of 8:47.88 to move into fourth all-time in Purdue's event performance list. Smith's time checks in among the nation's top 20 and third-fastest in the Big Ten this season. The Cody, Wyoming, native was passed in the final yards and closed the meet with a second-place finish, just 1.7 seconds behind Gonzaga's first-place finisher.

Three weeks ago, Eckstein set the second-fastest time in Purdue 5k history at the Stanford Invite after taking an incredible 34 seconds off his time. Back at the Cobb Track and Angell Field once again, Eckstein continued to lower his personal-best, eliminating another five seconds from his time. The sophomore was clocked at 13:51.60 for 13th-place while teammate and holder of the fastest 5k time in Purdue history, Jaret Carpenter, took 14th-place with a time of 13:59.64.

Meanwhile the women's team was highlighted by Gabrielle Broschard's season-best in the 3k steeplechase. After eliminating over 14 seconds off her previous-best, which earned her Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week (3/27), the redshirt senior crossed the finish line in 10:45.53, placing 12th.
