BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – At the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Jalil Brewer closed out the indoor campaign with a 16.46-meter throw and 16th-place in the shot put.
Brewer, a sophomore, qualified for the NCAA Championships event after posting a career-best 64-03.00/19.58-meters at the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor on Feb. 23.
In his first trip to the big stage, Brewer fouled on his first attempt before notching a night-high of 54-00.00/16.46-meters on his second throw. The Indianapolis native recorded a distance of 50-02.50/15.30-meters on his third toss. The top nine throwers continued on for their final three attempts.
Brewer's mark at the Big Ten Championships earned him a place as No. 3 all-time in the Purdue record books, besting his previous season-high mark by half a meter.
