SB’s Behan Named B1G Player of the Week

Jenny Behan hit three homers and recorded nine RBI as Purdue went 4-1 in Orlando.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After decorating Purdue softball's winning weekend with a .529 batting average and three home runs, senior Jenny Behan was tabbed Co-Big Ten Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Behan, who led the Boilermakers with nine hits and nine RBI, helped the Boilermakers post a 4-1 record at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla., with wins over Bradley, South Alabama and Savannah State.

The Mundelein, Ill. native registered a 9-for-17 performance at the plate that included three home runs and two doubles, while also tallying a team-best nine RBI, five runs and 20 total bases. She also topped the Boilermakers with a 1.176 slugging percentage, a .600 on-base percentage and 15 assists on the field.

Her weekend was highlighted by three hits, including two home runs, and five RBI in the tournament finale, a 10-1 run-rule victory over Savannah State on Sunday.

The honor is a career first for the third baseman as she is the first Boilermaker to earn the weekly recognition since Ashley Burkhardt on Feb. 16, 2015.

Behan and the Boilermakers return to Florida for the FAU/FIU Parent's Weekend Tournament on March 8-10.
