WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – This weekend's Purdue-Creighton baseball series has been canceled due to unplayable field conditions at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Head coach Mark Wasikowski is currently exploring options to add games in place of the Creighton series. More information will be announced as it is finalized.
A late February snowstorm in Nebraska coupled with lingering frigid temperatures led to unplayable field conditions at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, which is also home to the College World Series as well as the 2019 Big Ten Tournament.
Creighton canceled its home midweek series with Northern Colorado (March 5-6) on Feb. 25. Purdue and Creighton discussed alternative options for their March 8 to 10 dates, but ultimately a site for a revamped neutral-site series did not work out.
The weekend forecast for Omaha calls for temperatures in the 30s, with rain likely Saturday.
The University of Nebraska also relocated its home series with Baylor this weekend to BU's campus in Waco. Purdue is scheduled to play at Nebraska the weekend of April 5 to 7. The Big Ten Tournament returns to TD Ameritrade Park Omaha from May 22 to 26.
The Boilermakers' fourth weekend of the 2014 season was also impacted in similar fashion. A weekend series at Missouri State was canceled due to an incoming ice storm. Instead, Purdue traveled to Birmingham where it played Butler and Samford for a Saturday doubleheader at Samford's Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Last year's season-opening series at Baylor was canceled after fog in Chicago grounded the Boilermakers' flight from Midway to Dallas. Western Michigan also had a flight from Midway to Houston canceled that day, so Purdue and WMU were paired together for a neutral-site series at Perfect Game Park in Georgia.
