Women's Tennis Hits the Road

The Purdue women's tennis team is on the road this weekend for two Big Ten matchups. On Friday, the Boilermakers will take on Iowa (8-8, 0-4) at 6 p.m. ET, followed by a Sunday contest against Nebraska (8-12, 0-4) at 1 p.m. ET.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team is on the road this weekend for two Big Ten matchups. On Friday, the Boilermakers will take on Iowa (8-8, 0-4) at 6 p.m. ET, followed by a Sunday contest against Nebraska (8-12, 0-4) at 1 p.m. ET.
 
The Boilermakers (5-10, 0-4) look to snap the losing streak and earn two conference victories on the road.
 
Ena Babic is coming off a strong performance last weekend, defeating two ranked opponents en route to earning Big Ten Player of the Week. Babic is undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 record.
 
Silvia Ambrosio remains at No. 33 in singles and No. 53 in doubles with fellow classmate Amina Mukhametshina. Ambrosio played a tough match against No. 24 Michigan's No. 4 Kate Fahey on March 22 in which she led 3-6, 6-2, 2-0 before ending unfinished.
 
Series History
 
Purdue leads the series with Iowa 26-24. In the Boilermakers last meeting they swept singles, defeating the Hawkeyes 6-1. Ambrosio defeated Elise Van Heuvelen at the No. 1 spot, 6-7, (5-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-3). Babic won over Zoe Douglas 6-0, 6-1. Alex Sabe took down Anastasia Remchen in two sets, 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 3 spot. Seira Shimizu defeated Adorabol Huckleby 6-3, 6-2. Caitlin Calkins won over Montana Crawford 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Zala Dovnik claimed victory over Adrienne Jensen 6-1, 6-3 to finish out the six victories in singles.  


The Boilermakers also lead the series with Nebraska 5-3. In 2018, Purdue upset the No. 36 Cornhuskers 4-3. Ambrosio defeated Brianna Lashway 6-4, 6-2 to gain the first Boilermaker point. Dovnik's victory over M'Balia Bangoura 6-2, 6-4 evened out the score 2-2. Shimizu defeated P. Del Cueto Castillo 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to push the Boilermakers up 3-2. The Huskers won at the No. 3 spot so it all came down to Babic at the No. 2 position. Taking the final set by storm, Babic defeated Claire Reifes 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-1 to seal the Purdue victory.
