AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Purdue women's golf team put together a pair of outstanding rounds at Forest Hills Golf Course on Saturday, shooting eight-under par, 568, through 36 holes to sit in second place at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The Boilermakers tied the No. 3 team 18-hole team score in program history in round two, finishing nine-under par, 279, to record the top team mark of the second session and pull within six shots of the lead.
Senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri is tied for the individual lead after 36 holes at six-under par, posting an opening-round score of two-under 70, and following up with a four-under 68 to share a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard. She did all her damage on the front nine in both rounds, shooting four-under 32 both times, and played the back nine with nine straight pars in the second round.
Rookie RuQin Guan is tied for fourth individually at three-under par, shooting a collegiate-best score of four-under 68 in the second round to vault her way up the leaderboard. She shot one-over 73 on the opening 18 holes, and was sitting at even par through 14 holes in the second round with two birdies and two bogeys before finishing with four straight birdies to close the day. Guan is now 1-of-5 Boilermakers to shoot 68 or better this season.
The third Boilermakers to finish under par Saturday was freshman Danielle du Toit as she sits tied for 10th individually at one-under par. The Purdue rookie was even par in the first round and shot one-under 71 in the second, marking her 10th and 11th rounds of par or better this season and pulling to within one round of Purdue's freshman record. She made eight birdies on the day, four in each round, and now has 63 on the season.
Junior Micaela Farah and sophomore Inez Wanamarta shared the final team score in the opening round at two-over 74, while Farah logged the fourth team mark in round two at even-par 72.
Purdue's score of nine-under 279 matched the No. 3 team round in program history, and is the Boilermakers' eighth team round of the season under par in 2018-19. The Boilermakers are six shots behind team leader Texas Tech, which posted matching rounds of seven-under 281 on Saturday and sit at the top of the leaderboard at 14-under 562.
Putri is tied with Texas Tech's Amy Taylor and Charlotte's Ellinor Sudow at the top of the individual leaderboard, holding a three-shot edge on Guan and Texas Tech's Sofia Garcia.
The Boilermakers will play the final round with Texas Tech and Charlotte tomorrow, teeing off on the first three holes at 9 a.m. ET.
