SAN DIEGO - Purdue men's tennis defeated Quinnipiac 5-2 on Wednesday at the La Jolla Northview Tennis Center to secure its first outdoor win of the season.
Purdue (5-5, 0-2) won the doubles point to start the match off strong. Mateo Julio and with Athell Bennett defeated Alester Magalit and Patrick Cachapero 6-1. Franz Luna and Santiago Galan paired up for the first time this season to defeat Bryan Schick and Jack Alexander 6-2.
In singles play, Bennett defeated Freddie Zaretsky 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.
Maksymilian Raupuk defeated Hielke Moore 6-0, 6-4.
Galan won over Chachapero after a slow start 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Luna took down Axel Stern 6-1, 6-0.
The Boilermakers will be back in action at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge in Indian Wells, California, on Friday at 5 p.m. ET to take on Cal (6-5, 2-0).
