THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Purdue women's golf team got things off to an outstanding start at the Icon Invitational on Monday, sitting tied for the tournament lead at five-over par before the second round was suspended due to darkness. Play was delayed Monday due to inclement weather in the area, leaving the teams with a few holes to play before they can start the final round Tuesday.
Senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri leads the team at four-under par with three holes left in the second round, sitting second on the individual leaderboard and two strokes back from Clemson's Alice Hewson. Putri shot an opening-round 68 that included four straight birdies on holes No. 12-to-15, and made three birdies on the back-nine in the second round before leaving the course.
Junior Micaela Farah is tied for eighth at one-over par, also needing to finish holes No. 4-to-6 to complete her second round. She played the back-nine three-under par in the opening round and finished at even-par 72, and is one over with a birdie and two bogeys in the second 18.
Freshman Danielle du Toit got off to a great start, shooting two-under 70 with four birdies over her final five holes of the opening 18. However, in the second round she sits at six-over par with two holes remaining. Sophomore Inez Wanamarta had the final team score of the opening round at two-over 74, and is two over with one hole left for her second 18.
The Boilermakers are locked up with tournament-host Houston at the top of the leaderboard at five-over. Purdue shot four-under 284 in the first round, while the Cougars are four-under with several holes left in their second round. Texas A&M sits third on the leaderboard at 11-over par.
Play will resume at 9 a.m. ET tomorrow, completing the second round before immediately starting the final round of play.
