WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Dylan Lydy was the lone victor in No. 20 Purdue wrestling's 34-3 loss to sixth-ranked Ohio State on Friday. The dual was the final of the season at Holloway Gymnasium.

Lydy, the 11th-ranked 174-pounder, posted a 5-3 decision over No. 18 Ethan Smith. After a scoreless first period, the redshirt junior escaped to start the second frame and took the Buckeye down. Lydy struck for another takedown with less than 30 seconds remaining in the match. Smith escaped, his third one of the match, and Lydy held him off to improve to 21-6.

"He [Smith] is a lefty who leads, so that kind of threw me off a little bit," Lydy said. "I just had to keep down in good position in the first period. I kind of just felt out where my attacks were going to come from. I think I could have done a better job riding at the end; I need to do a better job with closing matches the rest of the year."

A hands to the face call on Purdue's 15th-ranked Ben Thornton early in the third period was the difference in a 2-1 match against No. 6 Luke Pletcher. Both wrestlers had one point by way of an escape. It's the second time in as many career meetings that Pletcher has edged Thornton 2-1.

The Boilermakers (6-9, 2-6 B1G) will close out the Big Ten schedule at Michigan State on Sunday. Action from Jenison Fieldhouse in East Lansing, Michigan, is set to get underway at 1 p.m. ET. The Spartans (9-7, 3-5 B1G) lost a 37-10 dual to top-ranked Penn State on Friday.
