WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis senior Silvia Ambrosio earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors for her performance at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Ambrosio helped the Boilermakers defeat No. 12 Ole Miss on Jan. 26 with her victory at the No. 1 spot over No. 68 Sabina Machalova. Ambrosio won 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. The following day, the Boilermakers played No. 24 Syracuse, and Ambrosio defeated No. 43 Gabriela Knutson 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. She also paired with classmate Amina Mukhametshina to win at No. 1 doubles 7-5.
Ambrosio, ranked No. 19 nationally, is undefeated in singles play. She boasts a 3-0 record, including two victories over ranked opponents.
The last time Ambrosio was so honored by the Big Ten was April 24, 2018.
Purdue (3-1) is back on the courts Friday at Virginia Tech. The match will begin at 3 p.m. ET.
