WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Fans will have six opportunities to see Purdue baseball in action this fall at Alexander Field as head coach Mark Wasikowski has unveiled the October dates for the program's exhibition games and the Old Gold & Black Series.
All of the Boilermakers' fall exhibition events at Alexander are open to the public and feature free admission.
An NCAA rule change this year now allows Division I baseball programs to play a pair of exhibition games in the fall. The Boilermakers will host Parkland College on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Heartland College on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Parkland and Heartland are both junior colleges based in Central Illinois. Senior Patrick J. Smith pitched at Heartland for two seasons before joining the Boilermakers last fall. Meanwhile, recent Purdue standouts Nick Wittgren (2011-12) and Ross Learnard (2017-18) both pitched at Parkland before transferring to West Lafayette. Tampa Bay Rays gold glove center fielder and diehard Purdue fan Kevin Kiermaier also played at Parkland.
The Boilermakers' annual Old Gold & Black Series is again a three-game set to close out fall practice. Those intrasquad games are set for Oct. 20, 26 and 27.
Purdue is also hosting the Fieldhouse Pirates, a travel team from Ontario, for an open scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 12. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
Skyler Hunter, Ben Nisle, Dalton Parker, Bo Hofstra, Ryan Beard, Andrew Bohm and Tyler Powers headline the Boilermakers who are back from last year's 38-win team that earned the No. 2 seed at the NCAA Regional in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Purdue has 18 new players on its fall roster. Full fall practice begins Sept. 13 with scrimmages regularly held on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Purdue Athletics is planning on offering live stats for all fall exhibition games.
All dates and game times are subject to change. The Boilermakers' 2019 regular-season scheduled will be announced the first week of September.
