FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Christian Brunner was the stand out for 13th-ranked Purdue in pair of dual losses Saturday at the South Beach Duals. Brunner, ranked ninth nationally at 197 pounds, was businesslike as he defeated ranked opponents from Utah Valley and NC State. The No. 22 Wolverines (28-11) and seventh-ranked Wolfpack (27-13) upended the Boilermakers during the first of two days of competition at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center.

Brunner dealt Utah Valley's 13th-ranked Tanner Orndorff a 7-2 decision, beating the Wolverine for the second time in a month. The two-time NCAA qualifier followed with a dominating 14-4 major decision over No. 16 Malik McDonald of NC State to improve his junior mark to 10-4. Six of his 14 points came from tilting McDonald, taking his career total to 134 and moving into the No. 19 spot on Purdue's all-time top 20.

No. 18 Devin Schroder provided bonus points to open the dual against the Wolverines, cruising past Josh Jensen with an 18-0 technical fall in 2:32. He scored 16 back points in the 10th technical fall of his career, pushing his career back point total to 200 and moving into No. 11 on the career record list. Schroder (12-5) also moved into a tie for No. 16 on the season back points list with 80 so far in his redshirt sophomore campaign.

Nate Limmex and Jacob Aven bounced back from disappointing losses in the Utah Valley dual with victories against their NC State opponent. Limmex (11-6) recorded a takedown in each period in a 9-5 upset of 15th-ranked Jamal Morris at 141 pounds. A strong takedown as time expired in the first period was the key to Aven's 3-1 showing against Deonte Wilson in the heavyweight match. The win was the seventh of his redshirt senior season.

The Boilermakers have two more opponents on their South Beach Duals docket. On Sunday, they'll collide with No. 6 Missouri at 11 a.m. ET, followed by a 1 p.m. date with West Virginia. The Tigers won both of their duals Saturday, beating Kent State (44-0) and No. 21 Lehigh (21-12); the Mountaineers fell to Virginia (26-13) and Michigan State (23-16).
