WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Seven of the Purdue divers are set to compete among the nation's best this week at the Texas Hall of Fame Diving Invitational, held at the same aquatic center that will be hosting the NCAA Championships in March.
Action begins Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET and continues through Friday afternoon. The Longhorn Network will be televising the finals of each event. The top eight in the springboard prelims advance to the evening finals. Platform is a finals-only event Friday. Purdue is the only Big Ten Conference university with divers competing at the prestigious meet this year.
The Boilermakers will be represented in all six events. Brandon Loschiavo should be among the favorites on platform after he posted the top score in the country this season while winning the event Sunday at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Freshman Ben Bramley is slated to compete in all three men's events. Fellow freshman Maggie Merriman is also set to compete on a springboard (3-meter) and the tower. Emily Bretscher, Joe Cifelli, Greg Duncan and Morgan Meixner are entered in both springboard events.
Along with the host Longhorns, the Texas Hall of Fame Diving Invitational is also scheduled to feature student-athletes from Arizona State, Arkansas, Hawaii, Louisiana State, Miami (Fla.), TCU, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
The Boilermakers last competed at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center for the 2014 Men's NCAA Championships. Four men's divers qualified for Purdue that season. December 2010 marked the last time the Boilermakers competed at the Texas Hall of Fame Diving Invitational. Olympian David Boudia swept the men's events that weekend.
For their fall invitational meets this week, the Boilermakers are competing in three different cities. While the divers visit Austin, the men's swimmers travel to Iowa City and the women's swimmers make the short trip south to Bloomington. Both of those aquatic centers are hosting the Big Ten Championships for their respective genders this season.
The 2019 NCAA Championships at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center are set for March 20 to 23 (women) and March 27 to 30 (men).
