MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 12 Purdue volleyball team wrapped up its weekend on the road with a 3-0 (10-25, 23-25, 25-19) loss against No. 3 Minnesota at Maturi Pavilion Saturday night.
Much like Purdue's 2017 visit to Minneapolis, the Gophers took advantage of too many errors by the Boilermakers. Altogether, Purdue finished with 27 errors to Minnesota's seven.
Redshirt senior Sherridan Atkinson guided the Boilermakers with a match-high 17 kills, while redshirt junior Blake Mohler and freshman Grace Cleveland tallied eight kills apiece. Redshirt freshman Hayley Bush paced the effort with a match-best 31 assists.
Defensively, the Gophers edged Purdue 4-1 in blocks and 52-46 in digs. Marissa Hornung earned her second consecutive match with 15 digs or more with 18 on the night. Redshirt sophomore Olivia Van Zelst sparked a 5-1 run in the second set with back-to-back service aces to give Purdue a 12-11 lead, and ultimately finished the night with a match-high three perfect serves.
The competition only gets tougher for Purdue as it now comes home to West Lafayette, to host No. 6 Nebraska at Holloway Gymnasium on Friday, November 16, at 7 p.m. ET.
