Dovnik Headed to Finals

Zala Dovnik is the last Boilermaker in the main draw of the UNLV Invite, where she will play in the finals.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- Purdue women's tennis continued play in Las Vegas at the UNLV Invite for day two of the tournament. The second day consisted of one round of singles, followed by one round of doubles. 

In flight one, Seira Shimizu lost to No. 49 Aiwen Zhu from the University of Las Vegas 6-1, 6-2. 

Ena Babic lost in flight two to Kalani Soli of Liberty 6-3, 6-2.

Alex Sabe defeated Ivana Babic from the University of North Texas 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 in the consolation of flight three.

In flight five, Caitlin Calkins lost to Dorothy Faa Hviding of Texas A&M 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Zala Dovnik defeated Sille Tranberg from the University of North Texas 6-2, 6-2 in flight six. The day-two win makes Dovnik the last Boilermaker in the main draw of the tournament, where she will play in the finals.

Doubles followed singles in day two, and the Boilermakers had six players consisting of three doubles teams.

In consolation of flight one, Babic and Amina Mukhametshina lost to Meredith Jones and Ashleigh Harvey of Air Force 6-2.

Flight two brought success for the Boilermaker duo Shimizu and Calkins as they defeated Kalani Soli and Lara Soares 7-6. The doubles team will play Sunday in the doubles final.

Sabe and Dovnik lost in the consolation round of flight three doubles to Alex Kuo and Meredith Laskey from Air Force 6-3. 

Singles and doubles finals for the tournament will be played Sunday.
