Purdue jumped out to an early 2-0 set lead. In the first set, the Boilermakers hit .441, led by an 8-3-14 performance from Atkinson.  Newton added to Purdue's offensive dominance with seven kills of her own. The Boilermakers gained the 1-0 advantage with a 25-16 win.

In the third set, Purdue led 10-5, but a quartet of serves from Wisconsin's Sydney Hilley gave the Badgers a two-point lead (16-14), and from there Wisconsin was able to take the third set 25-23.

Wisconsin took the fourth set by hitting .419 with 16 kills. Purdue saw Atkinson and Newton dished out three kills apiece, but it was not enough to overcome the Badgers, who took the set 25-14.

In the fifth and final set, Purdue opened with a trio of attack errors, helping Wisconsin to a 4-1 lead. The Boilermakers rallied back to cut the lead to 8-6, but a pair of kills from Wisconsin's Molly Haggerty halted Purdue's push. Wisconsin finished off the match with a 15-10 win in the fifth set.
