WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- Purdue women's tennis traveled to the Florida Gulf Coast Collegiate Open at the Bonita Bay Club. The Boilermakers played Florida Gulf Coast University in the first day of the tournament.
In singles, Silvia Ambrosio defeated Maja Ornberg 6-3, 6-1.
Seria Shimizu lost to Julia Ascua 6-2, 7-5.
Ena Babic defeated Sara Kelly 6-2, 7-6.
Amina Mukhametshina won against Madison Gallegos 6-2, 6-3.
Alex Sabe defeated Sofia Perez 6-4, 6-1.
Caitlin Calkins lost to Bridget Forster 6-2, 6-4.
Zala Dovnik was defeated by Patricia Villar 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, Ambrosio and Calkins lost to Ornberg and Ascua 6-1.
Babic and Mukhametshina defeated Gallegos and Perez, 6-4
Shimizu and Dovnik played Kelly and Foster, losing 7-6.
Purdue will be back in action Saturday at 12:30 p.m. to play the University of Central Florida and University of South Florida.
