WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For a second-straight meeting between the Boilermakers and the Buckeyes, Purdue (17-4, 6-4 B1G) outplayed Ohio State (12-10, 3-7 B1G) for a three-set victory at Holloway Gymnasium on Sunday. The home win is the first time since 2014 that the Boilermakers took down Ohio State in West Lafayette.
Purdue hit .386 while holding Ohio State to a .082 hitting percentage and siding out at 62-percent to control the match. The Boilermakers' defense set the tone in the first set as the Buckeyes hit just .056 to open the match, while Purdue's offense sealed the win, hitting .625 with 16 kills in the final frame.
Redshirt senior Sherridan Atkinson registered two of Purdue's five service aces and topped the offense with 10 kills with no errors on 21 swings. Redshirt junior Blake Mohler and freshman Grace Cleveland complimented Atkinson's performance with eight kills apiece, while sophomore Caitlyn Newton added seven. Freshman Jael Johnson also chipped in five putaways on five swings for a 1.000 hitting percentage.
The offensive momentum was paced by redshirt freshman Hayley Bush. The rookie setter tallied a match-high 36 assists. Defensively, Purdue recorded 14 blocks to Ohio State's four, while also out digging the Buckeyes, 40-32.
Purdue saw eight Boilermakers post a block. The octet was led by Cleveland with two solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Mohler earned five assisted blocks, while Atkinson, Newton and redshirt junior Shavona Cuttino each collected three assisted blocks.
Senior libero Brooke Peters guided Purdue's back row with 15 digs, while sophomore Jena Otec and freshman Marissa Hornung finished the day with eight and six digs, respectively.

Ohio State opened the second set with a 7-3 lead, only to have the Boilermakers tie the set at 15 and again at 18. OSU broke the tie with a pair of kills from Vanja Bukilic to take a 20-18 edge, forcing a Purdue timeout. Regrouped, the Boilermakers sparked for a 7-2 run to wrap up the set, 25-22.
In the final frame, Purdue posted a .625 hitting percentage and held the Buckeyes to only seven kills and a .000 clip. Fueled by five kills from Mohler and service aces from Otec and Peters, Purdue opened the frame with a 10-3 lead and never looked back.
