WEST LAFAYATTE, Ind. – Behind a team effort and a perfect performance from redshirt junior Blake Mohler, the No. 17 Purdue volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13) victory against Maryland on Friday night at a sold out Holloway Gymnasium.
Mohler led all players with a .611 hitting percentage with 11 kills and zero errors on 18 swings. Redshirt Senior Sherridan Atkinson topped the home squad with 16 putaways, followed by sophomore Caitlyn Newton with 15 and freshman Grace Cleveland with 11.
Redshirt freshman Hayley Bush paced the offense to a .308 hitting percentage – including registering over a .350 attack clip in the first and final sets – while barely missing her fourth double-double with 52 assists and eight digs.
Senior Brooke Peters guided three Boilermakers in double figures with a match-high 20 digs. Freshman Marissa Hornung chipped in 12 digs, while Jena Otec added 10. Hornung also delivered a match-high five aces to tie her career-mark against Wisconsin earlier this season.
The Boilermakers controlled the tempo of the first stanza, jumping out to a 13-9 edge. Limiting the Terps to a .083 hitting clip, Purdue led from the first serve and cruised the rest of the way to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Boilermakers dominated along the net with a .364 hitting percentage, while forcing 10 Maryland errors.
Powered by five kills from Atkinson and Newton, Purdue maintained its momentum and raced out to a 14-8 advantage. Putaways from redshirt junior Shavona Cuttino, Cleveland and Mohler pushed the Boilermakers ahead, 18-14, before Maryland went on a 9-5 run to tie the match at 23. The Terps notched back-to-back kills to claim the set, 25-23, to tie the match, 1-1.

The Boilermakers close out the weekend with a Sunday contest against Ohio State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at Holloway Gymnasium.
