Cross Country Poised to Run McNichols Invite

The Purdue men's and women's cross country teams are poised to run in the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday. The 11 programs from throughout the Midwest will compete on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. The Purdue men's and women's cross country teams are poised to run in the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday. The 11 programs from throughout the Midwest will compete on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

The men's 8k is set to take off at 9 a.m. ET, with the women's race to follow at 9:30 a.m.

The event, hosted by Indiana State, will include teams from Butler, Cincinnati, DePauw, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Northern Kentucky, UW-Milwaukee, Rose Hulman and Vincennes.

In the Great Lakes Regional coaches rankings, the Purdue men's program came in at sixth place. Indiana State (11) and IUPUI (15) men's teams also received recognition in the poll.

On the women's side, the Boilermakers claimed eighth place, while upcoming opponent Indiana State earned the 11th slot.

Purdue last traveled to Terre Haute in November 2017 for the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championships, where the men's team posted its highest finish in the event in more than 20 years with its fifth-place nod.

In the Boilermakers' opening meet of the 2018 season, Jenna Halderman and Jacob Hanawalt led the teams to a second-place finish. Halderman's time of 17:27.2 secured a third-place finish for a personal best. Hanawalt placed sixth overall with a time of 18:32.5 to lead the men.
