Softball’s Becca Jones Invited to National Tryout

Purdue softball freshman Rebecca Jones is one of 27 named to the 2019 Canadian Junior Women's National Team Athlete Pool.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -  Purdue softball freshman Becca Jones is one of 27 named to the 2019 Canadian Junior Women's National Team Athlete Pool and have accepted an invitation to attend a Selection Camp in Fort Myers, Florida in January 2019.

The Junior Women's National Team coaching staff ran a series of combines throughout Canada earlier this year that was attended by over 500 athletes and scouted several tournaments this summer, including the U19 Women's Canadian Championship in Surrey, B.C., to produce the tryout roster.

"Becca [Jones] has worked very hard to improve her game at both the collegiate and international levels," Purdue softball head coach Boo De Oliveira said. "This is an amazing opportunity for her to represent Canada and her family's heritage. Becca will be competing on a team with many of her childhood idols. It has been exciting to see her set goals and work diligently to reach those milestones. This is a big honor for not only Becca, but for the Jones family and her Purdue softball family." 

Jones was previously on the 2017 junior national team that claimed a pair of bronze medal performances at the US World Cup of Softball XII and the IX Pan American Women's Softball Championship. The team also competed at the WBSC Junior Women's World Championship held in Clearwater, Florida. in 2017.
