WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Seniors Timmy Hildebrand and Jarle Volden and sophomore Cole Bradley have been named to the Big Ten's Golfers to Watch list, the league office announced today.
Volden and Hildebrand were selected to the watch list for the second time while Bradley was named for the first time.
Hildebrand, a Westfield, Indiana, native, is coming off a summer that saw him qualify for the U.S. Amateur for the second straight year while recording a 73.63 stroke average as a junior during the 2017-18 season. He posted three top-10 finishes and is currently Purdue's active leader in career stroke average (73.69), good for ninth on Purdue's career list. He has posted seven career top-10 finishes and 29 of his 75 career rounds have been even- or under-par.
Volden had a sensational spring a year ago for the Boilermakers, posting the second-best stroke average during the spring season at 71.95 strokes per round. He won his first career tournament in April with a dominating performance at the Kepler Invitational and had six rounds in the 60s (out of 29 rounds), good for the sixth most in a year in school history.
A native of West Lafayette, Bradley was named to the watch list after winning the 118th Indiana Amateur Championship and placing 11th at the Indiana Open this past summer. He finished last year with a 74.26 stroke average, good for seventh on Purdue's all-time freshman chart. He recorded three top-20 finishes last year and finished tied for 32nd at the NCAA Kissimmee Regional in May.
Head coach Rob Bradley welcomes back five regulars and brings in a highly-regarded recruiting class into the 2018-19 season. The Boilermakers will open the season Sept. 9 and 10, at the Gopher Invitational in Maple Plain, Minnesota.
