After 110 minutes of thrilling action under the lights of Folk Field, the Purdue women's soccer team held No. 25 West Virginia to a 1-1 draw.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After 110 minutes of thrilling action under the lights of Folk Field, the Purdue women's soccer team held No. 25 West Virginia to a 1-1 draw.

Purdue's lone goal of the game came in the 72nd minute. Freshman Sydney Duarte registered the goal off a cross from Sarah Clark. Despite a crowded box, Duarte was able to get the touch on the ball to put Purdue up 1-0.

The Boilermakers held the lead until just under five minutes remaining in the game. West Virginia's Grace Cutler headed the ball in during the 86th minute to put the Mountaineers on the board. No team could gain the advantage regardless of the two sudden death overtimes.

Despite being outshot 24-9, Purdue placed over half of their shots (5) on goal as opposed to West Virginia's .333 percent (8). Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Luce was a source of stability and insurance for the Boilermakers after recording seven saves in the full 110 minutes.

In addition to Luce, freshmen Skylurr Patrick, Grace Walsh, Julia Ware and senior captain Hannah Mussallem were relied on for the entire game.

The Purdue's back line saw much of the action during Friday's draw, particularly in the first half. In the 30th minute, the Mountaineers charged toward the goal while Ware was the last line of defense, guarding two players. The freshmen produced a phenomenal defensive effort when she was able to fend off both, making the time for Luce to silence the West Virginia opportunity.

In the 64th minute, the Boilermaker defense stopped a series of dangerous shots from just in front of the Purdue goal. The Mountaineers fired off four quick shots in just a matter of seconds. The first was saved by Luce, however the rebound led to two immediately blocked shots followed by another save by the Boilermaker goalkeeper.

During overtime, freshman Mia Roth earned arguably the best scoring opportunity either side had during extra minutes. Roth produced the beginnings of a breakaway, however the Mountaineer goalkeeper came out for the challenge and dove to cover up the ball and end the play.

To open the second overtime, Purdue attempted to score from midfield off the referee's whistle. The Boilermakers rocketed a shot off from center field, reminiscent of the Sylvia Forbes 4 second goal off kickoff at Texas A&M in 2009.
