WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Senior Cole Herdman has been named to the watch list for the 2018 John Mackey Award. Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the Mackey Award recipient will be announced on Dec. 5 and then presented live on Dec. 6 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Herdman, who has caught at least one pass in 29 consecutive games played, is coming off a 2017 season in which he hauled in 20 receptions for 331 yards and three touchdowns. He was on the receiving end of one of the Boilermakers' most memorable plays from last year, scoring on a 62-yard reverse flea flicker pass from David Blough against Ohio.
Former Boilermaker Tim Stratton was the inaugural recipient of the Mackey Award in 2000.
