WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Four former Purdue players played well during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, highlighted by Caleb Swanigan helping Portland to an undefeated record and a Summer League championship.
Playing in his second summer league, Swanigan averaged 8.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He played his best late in the league, scoring 21 points with 16 rebounds in a 97-92 semifinal win over the Grizzlies and tallied seven points, nine rebounds, five assists and a +24 rating in the championship win over the Lakers on Tuesday.
Swanigan finished seventh in the summer league with 10.7 rebounds per game and was the only player to average eight points, 10 rebounds and three assists in Summer League play (min. 3 games). He finished Summer League play with an astonishing plus/minus of +100.
Vincent Edwards helped the Houston Rockets to a 4-1 record before losing to Dakota Mathias and the Cavs in the round of 16. Edwards averaged 7.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while posting a plus/minus ratio of +37. He scored 20 points with eight rebounds and two assists in a win over the Clippers on July 9.
Mathias helped Cleveland to a 5-2 record and a spot in the quarterfinals where it lost to the Lakers in double overtime 112-109. Mathias averaged 4.5 points and 1.7 rebounds with a plus/minus ratio of +25. Mathias made six of 20 3-point tries and scored 10 points with two rebounds and two assists in a win over Edwards and the Rockets on July 14.
Isaac Haas averaged 3.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as the Jazz posted a 2-3 record. His best game came in a win over the Magic, when he scored five points with five rebounds. He also had four points and seven rebounds in just 14 minute against the Heat on July 10.
Collectively as a group, the quartet recorded a plus/minus ratio of +156 in just 429 minutes of action.
