BATON ROUGE, La. - Purdue (2-15) fell in what was a tight contest most of the game to No. 10 LSU 6-2 after dropping its first game of the day 5-1 to Illinois State. Sydney Bates continues to impress in big games for the Boilermakers.

Bates turned in six innings and allowed eight hits and three walks en route to five earned runs while striking out six of the 29 Tigers she faced. She was pitching with a 2-1 advantage in the fifth until LSU scored four runs to bust the game open.

Jenny Behan started things offensively for the Boilermakers with a two-out RBI double in the third and Morgan Cavinder captured the lead for Purdue in the fourth when she scored on a wild pitch. Ryleigh Scott singled and scored in the contest while Mallory Baker, Stephanie Ramsey, and Kaylah Hampton all registered hits off of the Tigers as well.

Game one, the Boilermakers out-hit Illinois State 8-7 however the Redbirds were able to make the most of their hits in order to score five runs. Purdue stranded 11 runners on base with Baker, Scott, Behan, Cavinder, Emily Kenny and Alexa Binckes all contributing hits in the matchup.

Purdue gets another crack at the Redbirds Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET at Tiger Park.
