Let's Play Football in Indianapolis

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue and Notre Dame have agreed to adjust the previously announced football series between the two schools, expanding it from four games to six. Beginning in 2021, the Boilermakers and Fighting Irish will alternate home games six times over the course of eight seasons. Purdue also added two additional home games to its future schedules, Sept. 12, 2020, against Memphis and Sept. 10, 2022, vs. Indiana State.

Purdue athletics director Mike Bobinski, a 1979 Notre Dame graduate and a four-year member of the Fighting Irish baseball team, is looking forward to the expansion

"Having been on the other side of the series some years ago, I am familiar with the history and tradition of the Purdue-Notre Dame matchup. Sellout crowds, national television, two outstanding universities in close proximity and intensely competitive games. I am excited that the series will resume and know our fans will be, as well."

Purdue head football coach Jeff Brohm was all in for adding more games with Notre Dame.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for the Fighting Irish football program," he said. "We strive to take on the best programs in the country on a regular basis, and when you have a first-class, high-caliber program nearby, it's a no-brainer to add more games against them. We look forward to the challenge."

The Boilermakers' 26 all-time victories are the third most over the Fighting Irish, trailing only USC (37) and Michigan State (29). Prior to the series ending with a neutral site game at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2014, Purdue's annual meeting with Notre Dame (1946-2014) was tied with USC vs. Notre Dame and New Mexico vs. New Mexico State for the fourth-longest uninterrupted non-conference series in the FBS behind Notre Dame and Navy (since 1927), Army and Navy (since 1930) and Cincinnati and Miami(Ohio) (1945). Purdue has faced Notre Dame more than any other Big Ten Conference school on the gridiron (86 all-time meetings).

With the announcement of the game with the Fighting Irish on Sept. 4, 2027, Purdue's game at Wake Forest has been moved to Sept. 9, 2028.

Purdue and Memphis will be meeting in 2020 for the first time in football, while the Boilermakers and Sycamores will square off at Ross-Ade Stadium in 2022 for the sixth time. Purdue has won the previous five meetings.
