WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- With practice for the 2017-18 Purdue men's basketball season starting tomorrow, the Purdue marketing department has announced its promotions schedule for the upcoming campaign.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Mackey Arena and several promotions are built in around the historic season.
Opening weekend will be full of ceremonies and giveaways as Purdue begins the season Nov. 10, against SIU-Edwardsville. There will be a special pregame ceremony to recognize Purdue's league-best 23rd Big Ten Championship during the 2016-17 season.
Two days later against Chicago State, the first 2,000 fans will receive replica Big Ten Championship rings, while all Boilermaker Kids Club members in attendance can get a locker room tour following the game.
The first of two Boilermaker Kids Club games will be Saturday, Nov. 18, vs. Fairfield. The other will be Dec. 30, vs. Lipscomb.
Fans are encouraged to wear black for the Boilermaker Blackout against Louisville on Nov. 28, in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge. Purdue owns a league-best 9-7 record in the Challenge but lost to Louisville in last year's event, setting up an interesting rematch in Mackey Arena.
For the Big Ten home opener on Dec. 3, fans are asked to be in their seats early for a special pregame presentation celebrating 50 years of Mackey Arena. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Red Mackey bobblehead and other ceremonies and recognitions are in the works.
For the Dec. 10, game against IUPUI on Star Wars Night, fans can donate a canned food item and have an opportunity to meet Star Wars characters. More details on additional promotions will be announced at a later date.
The next two games against Tennessee State (Dec. 21) and Lipscomb (Dec. 30) are featured as Family 4-Pack nights, where a family of four can purchase four tickets in the student section with a $20 food voucher for just $44.
On Jan. 3, against Rutgers, the first 2,000 fans will receive Steve Scheffler bobbleheads, while the Brian Cardinal bobblehead night will be Feb. 7, vs. Ohio State.
The annual T-shirt game will be Jan. 16, against Wisconsin. Nearly 15,000 t-shirts are given out to create a stunning visual of Mackey Arena for a national television audience.
Rocky Night, honoring the iconic movie series, will be Jan. 31, against Maryland. Fans can again donate a canned food item for an exclusive Rocky and Purdue-themed poster.
On Feb. 18, All-American and 2017 Big Ten Player of the Year Caleb Swanigan will return to Mackey Arena as we celebrate his banner. Swanigan was the No. 26 pick of the Portland Trailblazers in last year's NBA Draft and was named an NBA All-Summer League performer in July.
Lastly, help celebrate our four seniors (Vincent Edwards, Isaac Haas, Dakota Mathias and P.J. Thompson) on Senior Day against Minnesota on Feb . 25. The senior class has been to three straight NCAA Tournament and averaged almost 25 wins per season during their time at Purdue, helping restore the Boilermaker program among the hierarchy of the Big Ten Conference. In addition, Purdue will help raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation. The entire Haas family will be at the game to aid with the fundraiser, which assisted in a GoFundMe campaign to help Isaac's sister (Erin) receive a service dog.
Tickets are available on PurdueSports.com, by calling 800.49SPORT or by visiting the Mackey Arena ticket office.
Purdue is the defending Big Ten champion, posting a 27-8 record a year ago while advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. This year's squad returns six of its top seven scorers, including four seniors that have been a part of 74 wins over the last three years while boasting the best home record in the Big Ten during that span.
