VALPARAISO, Ind. - Overnight rain showers and more expected Tuesday have led to the cancellation of the Purdue-Valparaiso baseball game in Northwest Indiana.
The midweek game will not be made up. It was Boilermakers’ second cancellation of the season, but their first road game to not be played since an entire weekend series at Missouri State was canceled in March 2014.
The rain out means that Purdue’s homestand continues through this upcoming weekend. Butler and No. 16 Michigan visit Alexander Field this week. Assuming all four games are played, it will become a 13-game homestand dating back to April 21. It’s the program’s longest since a 14-game homestand in April 1983.
Wednesday’s game features two of the most improved teams in the country. Purdue (26-20) and Butler (27-17) have combined to win 29 more games than they did a year ago. It’s the final $2 midweek matchup of the season at Alexander Field. All general admission tickets, hot dogs, nachos and domestic draft beers are specially priced at $2. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
