ATHENS, Ga. - The Purdue women's golf team shot 24-over par, 312, Friday in the opening round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted by Georgia at UGA Golf Course. The Boilermakers came up one stroke shy of the championship Red Bracket, and will play a round-robin match play with South Carolina, Old Dominion and Troy on Saturday and Sunday.
Senior August Kim was the Boilermakers' top individual Friday, shooting one-over, 73, and tying for sixth individually. She made 13 pars on the day, making birdies on No. 6 and No. 9. Junior Linn Andersson had the No. 2 Boilermaker score, carding a five-over, 77, while sophomore Covadonga SanJuan and freshman Micaela Farah rounded out the team score with cards of eight-over, 80, and 10-over, 82, respectively.
Tournament host Georgia put up the top score on its home course, shooting nine-over, 297, and besting the field by six strokes behind an outstanding individual finish from Jillian Hollis, who shot five-under, 67. The middle of the team standings was extremely tight as three strokes separated fifth place (+22) from 10th place (+25) in stroke play.
Purdue opens match play tomorrow at 9:20 a.m. ET, facing Troy, will square off with Old Dominion at approximately 2:20 p.m., and will wrap tournament play Sunday, starting at 8:40 a.m. vs. South Carolina.
