AUSTIN, Texas ââ'¬" Symone Black led the Boilermakers on Thursday at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Black ran the No. 2 time in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles to advance to Saturday's finals, while 14 other Boilermakers were in action.
Black ran a season-best time of 57.06 seconds, 0.65 of a second faster than her season-opening time two weeks ago, to win her heat by 2.14 seconds. Her time was the fastest in the prelims by 0.35 of a second. Among those Black beat in the prelims were the individuals with the Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 11 times in the country.
Grace Lachmund had personal record in the women's 5,000-meter run. She ran a time of 17:04.05 to finish ninth. Her time was 2.04 seconds better than her lifetime PR and 21.77 seconds better than her previous-best outdoor 5k. Jenna Halderman had an outdoor PR in the 5k. She finished with a time of 17:21.40 to take 16th overall. Her time was 10.87 seconds better than her previous outdoor best.
In the men's 5k, Matt Grider finished seventh with a personal-record time of 14:26.07. That time is 2.70 seconds better than his lifetime PR and 6.99 seconds better than his outdoor best. Jacob Hanawalt finished ninth overall with a time of 14:27.14, which is a PR by 14.63 seconds. Jeremy Craven took 11th with a time of 14:38.71.
Micaela Hazlewood and Sarah Loesch finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the women's hammer throw. Hazlewood had a throw of 57.69 meters (189-03), while Loesch threw 57.63m (189-01). Loesch's mark was a personal best and ranks eighth in school history.
Michael Weller finished seventh in the men's javelin, while Brad Hoselton took ninth. Weller threw 60.35m (198-00), while Hoselton's best throw was 59.88m (196-05).
