WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After posting his third straight top-15 finish, Purdue's Fernando Barco was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for his efforts at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational.
It marks the second time that Barco has won the Big Ten's weekly honor, also earning the award a year ago on April 13.
Barco finished tied for 12th in the event that featured nine of the nation's top-50 teams. The senior from Lima, Peru, posted a 2-under par 214 (70-72-72). It marked his third career tournament where every round was even-par or better. Barco has posted seven straight rounds of even-par or better, tied for the second-best streak at Purdue since the 2001-02 season. Over his last three tournaments, Barco is a combined 11-under par.
Barco leads the team in stroke average at 72.35 per round, currently second on the single-season list at Purdue. He has posted 10 rounds of even-par or better, out of his 20 rounds this season. His score has counted in 17 of his 20 rounds this season.
For his career, Barco is averaging 73.67 strokes per round, the eighth-best average in school history. He owns 13 career top-20 finishes and six top-10 placings.
Purdue will host the Boilermaker Invitational on April 15 and 16 at the Kampen Course.
