WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Not everyone can be the star player, but everyone can play a role in the team success. Junior Morgan Cavinder has spent much of the last two years behind the scenes, acting as a bullpen catcher and making her presence known as a pinch runner, but when opportunity knocks, she has been ready.
"Mo has really come into her own this season," head coach Boo De Oliveira said. "She is a clutch hitter, who also runs well. She is not afraid to play new positions and will do whatever it takes to help the team be in the best position to win. Mo has the positive energy that fires our team."
She's 11 for 11 on defensive chances at catcher the past two seasons, seeing action behind the plate in seven games. She's scored eight runs, tapped two hits and swiped one base as a pinch runner/pinch hitter.
In 2017, she is hoping those years of dedication pay off in a larger role, but regardless, you can bet she will still give it all she has. The hardworking, loyal and friendly player looks up to her dad because he is hardworking and a very strong person. She calls her game dedicated and says the best feeling at the plate is executing your job.
But don't think Cavinder is all business. She would like to have dinner with comedian Seth Rogan and says comedienne Amy Schumer would play her in a story of her life. She also enjoys drawing and dreams of a job in sports marketing.
